COVID-19 Response: Schools and Universities

As a platform that works entirely online and remotely we want to support schools and universities in continuing to deliver quality language learning to their students

We are able to offer completely free access to our platform until the end of July, 2020 for any schools or universities closed by the effects of the coronavirus. This will enable languages teachers to connect their students to partners their own age to support each other learning their respective languages through Bili. N.B. whilst a Bili exchange is normally conducted between two native speaker classes, we can also facilitate partnerships where both schools are learning English.

We may also look into the possibility of working with languages teachers who are able to volunteer their time to coordinate a class, which can be offered directly to students. If you are a qualified English, French, German or Spanish teacher and are interested please do get in touch.

If you are a foreign languages teacher at a primary or secondary school or at a university, please register using our normal sign up form. We strongly encourage that schools with existing partnerships join with them where possible. Please do add any relevant details on the sign up form. Exchanges will be starting from April, and we will begin to offer weekly webinars for teachers on how to make the most of the platform.

Bili facilitates purely online exchanges and the easy onboarding steps  & tutorials for teachers and students mean that peer-to-peer language learning can be delivered 100% remotely.

  • Primary Schools

For any primary schools, we will offer access to the Bili exchange, including: tasks, teacher dashboard for moderation and task planning. Each student will have their own profile and you, as the teacher plan their tasks for them each week, whether written or media tasks. This is recommended from 9 years old. The registered teacher will be given access to the school account where they can manage their partnership(s), and any other teachers at their school (only one registration per school).

Students will also have access to live chat, and a forum between the two classes. • Universities

For universities, we will offer access to the Bili exchange, including: tasks, teacher dashboard for moderation and task planning. Each student will have their own profile and you, as the teacher plan their tasks for them each week, whether written or media tasks. Students will also have access to Bilichat, our live video chat app to communicate with their partners and in small groups. We will insist on universities joining with a partner institution or managing the exchange between their own students. If this poses a problem please get in touch and we will help where we can.
